Social & Recreational Classes

Below is a listing of our “regular” social and recreational programs.  We also offer a number of rotating and limited-time programs, so be sure to check out our weekly TRAAC Notes updates and program calendar for new programs and changes.

American Sign Language

Learn the basics of American Sign Language (ASL). Students will learn basic words, phrases, and common conversational signs using the proper combination of hand movements, facial expressions, and body posture. This is a beginner’s class that is open to all.

“As Time Goes By” Singers

“As Time Goes By” Singers practices an afternoon weekly that is full of music and song.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters

A partnership between the TRAAC, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Rupert Elementary School pairs students with trained and screened mentors from the TRAAC community. Contact Hannah Davis (hannah@tricountyaac.org) for more details.  

Bingo

Weekly Bingo is back! Cost is $3 for 3 cards.

Birthday Celebration Luncheon

Join us on the 3rd Wednesday each month to celebrate the monthly birthdays of our TRAAC community members. We celebrate with a special birthday cake and entertainment—and often a fun theme! Pre-registration necessary.  

Suggested Donation: $5 (covers cost of cake and entertainment) 

Book Club

Enjoy reading and discussing the monthly literary selections with other avid readers.

Canasta

Join fellow canasta fans for a Friday afternoon of canasta fun. Beginners welcome.

Card Making with Kathy

Greeting cards are a great way to bring a smile to a friend or offer encouragement to someone who is struggling—join us to create your own personalized cards for family and friends.  All supplies are provided.

Chair Massage with Mihae

Mihae Blank is here two Wednesdays (typically the 2nd and 4th Wed.) of the month to practice Chair Massage.  Each 15-minute appointment will include a brief personal health discussion and massage.  Appointments for a Chair Massage may be made at the front desk.  Payment is –$15 for 15 minutes and guests should arrive at least 5 mins before their scheduled appointment. Chess Club

Often called the “Game of Kings,” chess is a game of skill for 2 players. Improve your game or learn to play–all are welcome!

This fun, friendly game show-based activity is here at the TRAAC! Teams of 5 people needed monthly—form your team now or come watch the fun.

Fraud and Scam Prevention with Lt. Morrisey & Det. Nitka, Pottstown Police Department

Learn about current scams and how to prevent and protect yourself from fraud and scams.

Genealogy Club

Learn the art of tracing your “family tree” using documents, websites, and other resources. Check Facebook for announcements and topics.

Haircuts with Natalie

Are you in need of a haircut but don’t have the time to get out?  We have a solution! Natalie is a PA-State licensed beautician who provides haircuts to both men and women two Wednesdays each month. Cuts are $8.00 and payable to the stylist.   

Hill School Student Games & Visits

Hill School students visit the TRAAC for various social activities during the school year. Activities include games—such as Jeopardy and this is a great chance to meet young people and have fun!

History Club

The History Club meets on the 4th Friday of each month.  Join us for discussions, videos, movies & guest speakers.  Check the TRAAC Notes for upcoming topics. Donations appreciated.

Knitting, Crocheting and More

Learn, craft with friends or share your talent…bring your project or work on a project provided by the group. This is a social time to gather and work on fun projects or learn a new technique. It is open to all skill levels—including beginners.

LGBTQ Senior Social Group

A time to socialize, interact and connect at the TRAAC. The group meets monthly and provides an opportunity for LGBTQ active adults and allies to meet and enjoy refreshments, sharing each other’s company. The group typically meets at a nearby restaurant for lunch.

Litter and Garden Patrol

Join our dedicated team of gardens and grounds crew specialists as they tend to our luscious, green garden or keep the parking lots spic and span!

Mahjong

Come learn how to play Mahjong, a tile-based game developed in China during the Qing dynasty that has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century.  New players welcome!

Origami

The art of paper folding often associated with Japanese culture, origami develops hand-eye coordination, sequencing skills, memory, patience, and attention to detail.  Origami also allows you to develop fine motor skills and mental concentration. Donations appreciated.

Pinochle

Pinochle is a trick taking, Ace-Ten card game! Beginners are welcome to join in the fun.

Meets most days after lunch in the Café. Join the gang for a fun game—whether you are an expert player or just want to learn about it.

Sewing Basics for Beginners

Are you interested in learning the basics of sewing? Then, join Daryl on select Mondays from 1-3p to learn basics such as how to: thread a sewing machine, refill a bobbin, read a pattern, cut-out a pattern, make a simple project, mend, and use of different hand stitches. The goal is to help you feel comfortable trying more advanced projects and the option to join the TRAAC Sit & Stitch group.

Shuffleboard

The game room is currently open for Shuffleboard players.  There is group play on Monday at 8:00a & Tuesday at 1:00p. Beginners are welcome. 

Silver Aid Society

Outreach into local nursing homes and long-term care communities by TRAAC volunteers.  Goals are to enhance recreation and social activities for prior TRAAC members and local seniors.  Takes place off site in nursing homes and long-term care communities.

Spanish Language Class

Introduction to the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Lessons include the building blocks of Spanish and introduction to the fundamental grammar and ever-increasing vocabulary list. Donations appreciated.

Sundae Mondays

Technology Assistance

Bring your phone, I-pad, laptop of other device to get assistance. Specialized, how-to instruction on how to use devices, apps and everything else tech-related including topics on Smart Phones, Video Chats and Zoom calls, etc.

“The TRAAC Singers”

The TRAAC Singers meet weekly and perform locally. Join the chorus to sing a tune with this small singing group.           Instructor: Jay Kapila

TRAAC Sit & Stitch Group (formerly TRAAC Sewists; NOW two days a month of Open Sewing)

If you enjoy sewing, quilting, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, embroidery, crewel or any other type of handwork then this group may be for you! Bring your own project (BYOP), no matter the size, and work at your leisure while chatting, sharing and learning with Sit & Stitch enthusiasts. This is a great way to pursue your interests, learn new “tricks of the trade” and most importantly meet and develop friendships with other “like-minded” people…
